I recently stumbled onto something I genuinely didn’t know existed:
Table of Contents
Decentralised Social Media.
Platforms like Mastodon and Surf.Social are doing something most of us wish the big guys would do—letting people connect without tracking, ads, or algorithms deciding what deserves attention.
No manipulation. No shadowbans. No “Oops, your reach is 93% lower this week because reasons.”
Instead of one company running the show, these platforms are built on a model where users own their space. You join a community (or run your own), you see posts in order, and the conversations feel… real.
And as someone who works in affiliate marketing and content creation, I started thinking:
Why aren’t more of us paying attention to this?
- Niche audiences? Check.
- No algorithm burying your post under trending nonsense? Check.
- Communities that care more about what you’re saying than how many followers you have? Triple check.
There’s still work to do. These platforms aren’t polished like Facebook. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. You get in early, you grow with it—and maybe even help shape it.
I’m now looking into creating my own instance down the line. Because why not? I like the idea of building a space with rules I believe in.
If you’re curious, here are two worth exploring:
- Mastodon – Think Twitter, minus the noise
- Surf.Social – More creator-focused, clean, and personal
- Donato.Ink – Yep, you guessed it right
Question for You:
Have you ever tried a decentralised platform?
Would you ever leave the big players behind… or do you think they’re too big to walk away from?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Let’s talk about the next wave—before we miss it.
